Gerard Tomnay

Professional

Gerard has been a civil and commercial mediator since graduating from the London School of Mediation in 2021.

He is a non-practicing solicitor with over 30 years’ experience of advising owners, occupiers, investors, funders, developers and insolvency practitioners on high value property transactions in the UK and Europe.

That long and successful career informs his current role as a full-time mediator with his own independent mediation practice specialising mainly (but not exclusively) in real estate disputes.

He has a depth of expertise in the real estate industry at a national and international level, which means he can be more creative in helping people to narrow the gap and find their own practical solutions.

He is passionate about mediation and how it transforms people from being combative and competitive to collaborative and creative.

Being highly empathic and a good rapport builder means people intuitively get that he wants to help them and can be trusted, which gives them confidence in the mediation process which is essential to them achieving what they consider to be good outcomes.

Feedback

“With Gerard’s skilful handling of, and innate empathy with, both side’s point of view, settlement was reached in less than a day. Gerard was quietly persistent and diplomatic throughout, and his background in (and knowledge of) real estate impressed my client who could not have been more delighted with the result. The client is now a mediation convert as am I, and I would definitely refer to Gerard again.”
- Real Estate Counsel at Top Tier Global Law Firm

“Gerard was introduced through our solicitors and the reality is that we couldn’t be more happy with the process and the result of it. We reached an amicable and acceptable solution for both parties in just a day, which is a merit considering that we had been in disputes with the tenant for months.  It was our first experience of mediation and we definitely will repeat it in the future if we have another dispute like this one.’”
- Asset Manager at an International Real Estate Investor

“One of Gerard’s strong personality traits is his interest in people and ability to empathise with them so they feel he understands their situation. He’s very approachable and good at rapport building and helping people work through their problems to put them in perspective. He was my first supervisor as a trainee and a subsequent mentor as an associate. I always enjoyed working with him and trusted his judgment and instincts.”
